Study Background

Arthroscopic or open shoulder surgery can be performed with the patient in the beach chair or lateral decubitus position. There are advantages and disadvantages of both positions.

Methods

The authors reviewed current literature (up to 2015) and provided a comparison of all aspects of the different positions. Detailed descriptions of how to achieve the 2 positions are provided, including information on the equipment required.
