Up to 15% of patients may develop complications after cardiac surgery.1-2 With the associated risk for death and increased hospital length of stay, readmissions and cost of care, measures that reduce complications can positively impact clinical and economic outcomes.1-3 The ERAS® Cardiac Society now recommends goal-directed fluid therapy to reduce postoperative complications.4
This symposium will review the current recommendations for goal-directed therapy within cardiac enhanced recovery programs and share current experience at two institutions.
